Volunteer Jean & Therapy Dog Angus Receive Outstanding Volunteer Award

We are incredibly proud to share that Chandler Unified School District recognized Paws for Youth Volunteer Jean and Therapy Dog Angus with the Outstanding Volunteer Award for their volunteer work at Sanborn Elementary.

The Superintendent of Chandler Unified School District invited them to an awards ceremony, where they received recognition on stage. Therapy Dog Angus even wore a tie for the occasion.

“Jean Harris and her therapy dog, Angus, have made a remarkable and lasting impact on the Sanborn Elementary community through [Paws for Youth’s] ABC reading program. Their weekly visits have become a treasured part of our school culture, providing students with opportunities to strengthen their reading skills, build confidence and enhance emotional well-being in a warm, supportive environment.”

“Jean approaches every interaction with professionalism, warmth and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. Her thoughtful preparation ensures a high-quality experience that nurtures both literacy and self-confidence. Each student who reads to Angus feels seen, heard and valued, as Jean ensures that all children – regardless of ability, background or circumstance – have access to this unique and impactful learning opportunity.
“Jean and Angus have touched countless lives at Sanborn Elementary. Through their gentle encouragement and steady presence, they help children discover the joy of reading, the power of perseverance, and the confidence to believe in themselves. Their volunteer service truly reflects the very best of Sanborn’s values, and we are proud to recognize their extraordinary contributions with the Outstanding Volunteer Award.”

Congratulations to Volunteer Jean and her big bear of a Leonberger, Therapy Dog Angus, for this very well-deserved recognition of your work in our ABC program. We are so proud and grateful to have you in our dedicated pack of volunteers!
